Anne-Marea Griffin has focused her professional life on African affairs, philanthropy, policy advocacy and program management. She most recently served as Senior Fellow, Africa policy at the Center for American Progress.
Previously, she served as Senior Director, Global Cause Partnerships at UNICEF USA. Anne’s other major positions included program officer work and senior level consultancies with major philanthropic institutions such as the Ford Foundation, ELMA Philanthropies, Carnegie Corporation and the MasterCard Foundation while living in Africa. On her return to the U.S., Anne consulted for the U.S. Agency for International Development, served as Deputy Director, Office of Program Partnerships with the U.S. African Development Foundation and also as Director at the Global Health Advocacy Incubator with a Bloomberg Philanthropies major program.
While in East Africa, Anne founded AHEAD, Ltd., an education NGO that promoted the amplification of student voices through scholarships, research networking and youth capacity-building.
Anne's career began in Washington D.C., with a focus on foreign policy advocacy at TransAfrica, later moving to Capitol Hill, where she was staff consultant for the House Subcommittee on Africa. Anne has always prioritized equity and social justice in her work experience which has also included positions at think tanks (Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies and the Investor Responsibility Research Center) and international development NGOs (Africare and Save the Children).
Dr. Griffin earned her B.A. degree in Afro-American Studies from Harvard University, M.A. in History from Northwestern University, spent a year on a fellowship at Yale University and earned her Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Bath, U.K.
