“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted…(Ecclesiasstes 3:1-3).” This bible scripture provides a good summary of this profile. Coming to Ashesi in 2018, I did not have much insight into the kind of experience I was going to have. My resolve, therefore, was to do the best I can with the various opportunities that would come my way. After four years, I now realize that I made the best decision to come to Ashesi. My four years at Ashesi have been a memorable period of development, challenges, socialization and fulfillment. The education here has helped me develop several skills - including cognitive and human relationship skills. Not only have I developed over the years here at Ashesi; my passion for further personal growth and development has been ignited like never before. My mindset has also been re-oriented to take interest in the development of my society. I encountered several challenges while here at Ashesi. In addition to several other issues, three of my siblings passed away during the period (one during my exam period). With the help of a counsellor in the school I was able to get myself back on track.
Among the beautiful aspects of Ashesi University is its multi-national community. I have been able to cultivate very good relationships with colleagues from countries like Rwanda, South Sudan, Cameroon, Kenya, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Nigeria, Togo etc. This relationship has helped me to appreciate our African diversity and to have people I call brothers and sisters outside the Ghanaian space. I really cherish this treasure from Ashesi University. Although I feel I couldn’t deliver my best at Ashesi, I am genuinely satisfied with the kind of training I received here and I am convinced it has prepared me very well for the future. On a personal note, the best trait of the Ashesi education are the hardworking faculty and staff of the university, who genuinely have the interests of the students at heart. Not only do they declare that we are the reason for the work they do, they equally demonstrate what they say. After my graduation, I will do my national service with Ashesi as a faculty intern. I have always believed in the transformative power of education, and for that matter, I maintain that the opportunity to teach people is an opportunity to transform their lives. To assist the faculty to nurture the next generation of students is a great service I look forward to.
After my national service, I will either enroll in a professional course while still working with Ashesi as a faculty intern or apply to the Ashesi Venture Incubator to start my fish farming business. I also intend to pursue two different Master’s Degrees (Finance and Investment and Education) and take short certificate courses in Leadership, Psychology, Theology, Relationship Management and Social Entrepreneurship since I want to be a successful entrepreneuer and educationist. I am currently working on a foundation known as ‘The Yeshua Foundation,’ whose mission is to impact African communities through the love and principles of Christ. Through this foundation, I intend to contribute my quota in helping to make Africa a better place for future generations. I am always reminded by one of my mentors that nothing in life is ever successful without the effort of many people who are willing to submit their talents, experience and resources for a common goal. Truly, we are the sum total of the people we have known, met, and learned from. I genuinely appreciate JOFLS for giving me this unique privilege. Before coming to Ashesi, I was a young man with a dream and a passion to make my life better and that of my local community. After these four years at Ashesi, I have been transformed into an agent of change. Every aspect of my life has experienced development and refinement. I am so grateful to JOFLS and promise to give back to my continent in the same spirit and passion.
