Computer Engineering
Class of 2022
Capstone. Quizzes. Projects. Classes. Exams. Presentations. These were the key players in my four-year journey that has finally come to an end. It seems like just yesterday I was boarding my first flight to Ghana to start my first year - and like just a few hours ago I was navigating studying remotely during my third year. My overall experience at Ashesi has nurtured me into the person I am today, whom I am extremely proud of. I have grown into a critical thinker, an eloquent speaker, a creative writer, an engineer and a leader. I can confidently represent myself and Ashesi in any space. I have had the privilege to travel to Senegal during my stay at Ashesi and have made connections within and beyond Ashesi. I have gained mentors, mentees, family, friends, and colleagues. Of course, I wish I had socialized and interacted more with the community and made more lasting friendships, but I am grateful for the courage I had to connect with those I did. I was able to work with the Warren Library in my second year. I applied skills from my courses to projects during my internships and I was able to lift the Ashesi flag high in the places I have worked. I am certain I will raise it even higher after graduation.
My initial plan after graduation was to go for graduate studies and major in Computer Science. Unfortunately, I was unable to secure a place for graduate studies owing to a few challenges I faced, so I had to put graduate school on hold for now. However, I was able to secure a Software Engineering role in Ghana, which I am so excited to start. With the software engineering space being highly unpredictable, I am looking forward to adapting to changes as I always have, and to becoming the best software engineer I can be. I also plan to continue working on ‘My Vision Initiative’ for the next few years and build it to be sustainable enough to achieve its vision, while grooming a team of young and passionate people to carry it through its next phase. Thank you very much to the donors who ensured a seamless four-year journey for me. I hope they continue to change lives by making the Ashesi experience possible for many more.
